Based on the name alone, it might seem obvious what differentiates The Overlook Kitchen + Bar at The Summit, A Dolce Hotel — and to be fair, the view is spectacular. But there’s a lot more to it than that.
Located in Cincinnati’s burgeoning Madisonville community, The Summit is Cincinnati’s introduction to an international line of Wyndham Dolce Hotels and Resorts that favors boutique over brand-centric style.
“We keep everything hyperlocal,” says Denise Bayless, Director of Sales & Marketing. “That means we showcase local art, we work with local vendors, and generally support the community as a creative destination.”
Thanks to those close community relationships, The Overlook sources the freshest ingredients direct from local sellers like Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese, Sixteen Bricks Artisan Bakehouse, and Ohio Valley Food Connection — a major selling point for 22-year veteran head chef Kyle Goebel, whose résumé features stints with Bell Event Centre and Orchids at Palm Court in downtown’s Hilton Netherland Plaza.
That hospitality expertise is critical to Goebel’s role at The Summit, where he oversees food and beverage service for the restaurant in addition to frequent galas, weddings, mitzvahs, and corporate events at the hotel. Menus change with the seasons and feature unpretentious plates meant to be enjoyed in a communal atmosphere where guests chat over fireside cocktails on The Overlook’s nearly 4,000-square-foot Terrace.
“Accessibility and respect are big components of my approach,” Goebel says. “Respect for the team, the guests, and the food — that’s how we build community.”
