Dayton, Ohio–Stepping into Crated & Cured takes you into Dayton’s past. From start to finish, Crafted & Cured pays homage to the Dietz Block Building’s 130-year-old history. You enter through a side entrance, evocative of Prohibition-era speakeasies. Inside, you’ll find glittering chandeliers, vintage furniture, and an apothecary-style bar. Music from a Bluetooth gramophone sets the mood. You are in a well-crafted blend of old and new.

At the bar, choose—by the glass or as a flight—from a 60 tap collection of locally crafted beer, ciders, or mead. The tap list includes local spirits from Warped Wing Brewery (Dayton), Moeller Brew Barn (Maria Stein, OH) and Braxton Brewing Company (Covington, KY). In the rear retail space, an old-school bookcase with a wheeled ladder is stocked with wine, craft beer, and cider.
To go with your drinks, you’ll want a selection of cured meats and fine cheese. Your friendly charcutier will assemble a customized assortment, presented on a board with accompanying bread, nuts, fruit, chocolate, and herbs—and a helpful explanation of everything you’re about to enjoy. “Charcuterie cones” are a portable version made of meats, cheeses, and bread.

Crafted & Cured is part one of Christian Alvarez and Andy Routson’s vision. Soon there will be even more reason to visit, as the partners transform the Dietz Block Building into “District Provisions,” with a butcher and deli, seafood market, and a Mediterranean carry-out.
